Economists tell us that excess supply dulls the edge of demand and desire.
That seems to be true about the once coveted, and much awaited, film Awards.
There are many Award properties in the first category.
But in Bengal the scene is different; the market is so called at growing stage, but there is not a single credible platform to recognize the excellence of an individual or a group in cinema.
Film Awards have now become more of an event for people from outside the industry. Film folks do attend, but probably for other reasons.
Those who are assured that they will not return empty handed, agree to attend the Award function after much coaxing and cajoling.
To make sure the Award functions are well attended by the so called stars, every year new categories of Awards have been created.
Earlier, it was deemed an honour for an artiste to perform at an Award function and much hype was built around it.
Today, it is clearly a “Paisa Phenko, Tamasha Dekho” situation.
Allegations that Awards are being bought or manipulated with personal bias in selection of Award Winners, be it at jury level or the management of the Award functions.
The equation a star has with various camps colours the outcome.
What is the idea behind the Awards? To recognize achievements? That’s what it was meant to be.
But today it has become a saleable property to make money and build brand.
What was once a great Film Industry event to recognize and honour talents has become a mere Marketing exercise.
Well it is a fact that glamour, glitter and showmanship are the buzz words.
Everywhere now a day’s filmy, glamour is sought after.
Therefore let’s accept these extravaganzas in their new incarnation with a win situation for all.
"We don't claim to be different but whatever we do, we do it differently"
A Film Industry is not only about the Actors, Directors, Producers and People working behind the scene. They create on screen magic by their story telling, entertain masses around the year.
This entertainment format reaches out to public in large in the form of publicity and promotion.
Apart from publicity; perception about the product is very crucial and is supposed to be created both before and after the release of a particular film/ product.
A group of people continuously lend their support to the Industry silently and create perception about the product/ film- they are the Film Journalists.
From viewing, supporting or criticizing every product / film, these journalists keep the fraternity’s perception rolling.
